Our Missions

Four areas of service

Four clear areas where members can turn citizenship into meaningful contribution.

The Westarctican Civilian Corps is a voluntary civilian service organisation. It is not a police, military, rescue or statutory emergency service. Members participating in emergency, first-aid or specialist activities do so only through appropriately recognised organisations, training and qualifications.

Antarctic Knowledge & Education

Antarctica, Westarctica, geography, climate, exploration, conservation, science, wildlife and Antarctic history. The Civilian Corps Academy belongs primarily here.

Environmental Service

Beach cleaning, litter collection, conservation volunteering, tree planting, wildlife projects, habitat restoration, citizen science and recycling.

Community Service

Food banks, elderly support, charity work, local clean-ups, homelessness organisations, animal shelters, fundraising and community events.

Preparedness & Civilian Skills

First-aid awareness, emergency preparedness, navigation, communications, cold-weather awareness, leadership and teamwork.

Community Clean-up

Featured Mission

Antarctic Wildlife Photo Documentation Project

Members are invited to contribute photographs of Antarctic or sub-Antarctic wildlife taken from approved sources (research databases, Creative Commons material, personal travel). The aim is to build a Westarctican educational image library for use in course materials and public outreach.

Welcome to the Westarctican Civilian Corps Academy

The Civilian Corps Academy is now open. Members may explore the seven learning pathways, browse available projects and submit service logs. Award claims will be accepted once the awards review team has completed its setup. We are pleased to welcome our founding members and look forward to building this institution together.
